Carol Horton Ward

Carol Horton Ward

On many warm Summer nights, Carol Horton Ward packs her photography gear into a Jeep Wrangler, quietly calls her little white Maltese mix terrier named Astro, and the two of them head out to Assateague Island to photograph the magnificent Milky Way. In early to mid-summer, the Milky Way is a brightly visible blanket of stars seen from the beaches of the island. The famous wild horses are nowhere to be seen, but cannot be heard over the sound of the crashing surf. She usually arrives early for the show, sets up her cameras on tripods and waits for the ideal moment to click the shutter.

This season, the Summer of 2020, the Earth has a special visitor passing through our solar system- a Comet called Neowise. With diligent care, Carol creates beautiful images of this natural phenomenon - a light show for the well informed.

As an adult, Carol dreamed of photographs while working for the Department of Energy and before that 23 years in the US Army. When she finally ushered in retirement, Carol wholeheartedly embraced her passion for photography which had been nurtured since a childhood in Michigan where most of her family remains, with the exception of her daughter Alisha who lives in California and a brother in Florida.. Her pursuit of great photographs has taken her to Alaska (3 times) to photograph Eagles, Bears, the landscape, and the Iditarod sled dog race; to Iceland to photograph the Aurora Borealis, waterfalls and glaciers; and to many National Parks here in the US - Glacier, Acadia, Gates of the Arctic and the Great Smoky Mountains to name only a few.

While constantly on the go all over North America and the globe, she has managed to have her photographs juried into many, many exhibitions and landed plenty of awards. Her photographs hang on numerous walls,(too many to describe) - both corporate and in exhibition spaces on the Delmarva Peninsula and the Eastern Shore.
