Jay Fleming

Jay Fleming, a well known Annapolis photographer, brings to the Photo Easton website a wealth of prestige and arguably some of the best and most interesting images of the Chesapeake Bay.   However, Jay is much more than a photographer.  He is a writer, filmmaker, environmentalist, and educator as well as a photographer.   He has prestigious documentary skills.  His documentary photography began with help from his dad and time spent in high school working as a freelance photographer in and around Annapolis, MD and the Chesapeake region.

Jay has written and photographed one of the most comprehensive books about the Chesapeake Bay fishing industry, the watershed and the people who make their living here.  The book:  “Working the Water”.  is in its 3rd printing.    Soon ...to be followed by his 2nd book: “Island Life” to be published in the fall of 2021.  Jay has also written, photographed, and published many articles about the fishing industry in dozens of publications.   His resume includes coverage by Maryland Public Television and a number of self published YouTube videos which are a delight to watch.

From underwater photographs of Blue Crabs swimming in lush beds of underwater grasses to incredibly poignant portraits of laborers working in an oyster shucking house, to portraits of workboats leaving the dock before sunrise, to more personal images of the residents of Smith and Tangier Islands which sit in the middle of the Chesapeake - Jay is raising the public’s awareness of the need to protect and conserve the majestic Chesapeake.
