Every summer many “Log Canoes” gather on the Miles River in St. Michaels, MD to race. The Miles is wide and shallow and every now and then one of these antique log canoes and her crew turn over and must wrighted and bailed out so the small craft can sail another day. These boats are called ‘Canoes” because they are usually hollowed out logs, and fitted out as racing craft. Many of these were built over 100 years ago and are lovingly handed down from generation to generation to continue a family tradition.
